Fiber cabling a part of the cable world

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

Fiber cabling makes use of a flexible optically transparent fiber, to transmit images or information. The above mentioned arrangement uses light pulses as the carrier, and is based on the principle of total internal reflection. Fiber optics is commonly seen in the field of telecommunications, Broadband and MSO, commercial and industrial users, television services, electric utility companies, office buildings, and so on.
There are three varieties of fiber optic cable which are commonly used. These are the single mode and multimode varieties, as also the plastic optical fiber variety. The single mode cable uses a single strand of glass fiber, and is used in a number of applications where data is transmitted at multi frequency. The multimode cable has a much larger core than a single mode one, and affords high bandwidth at high speeds, albeit over relatively shorter distances. The last named, namely plastic optical fiber, is commonly referred to as POF. This cable apes the performance of glass cables on very short runs, and is relatively inexpensive. All the three varieties of cable mentioned above, form an integral part of fiber cabling.
The fiber cabling world has grown in size over the past few years. In recent times, it is fast replacing copper wire as a fitting means of communication signal transmission. Fiber optic networks operate at high speeds, and have a good resistance graph against electromagnetic noise. These cables are fairly easy to maintain, and exude a large carrying capacity in terms of bandwidth. A big plus about fiber cabling is its inherent quality of being able to transmit signals further, without needing to be invigorated and or strengthened.
Some of the products which form a part of fiber cabling are, the 10GIG Multimode Fiber Optic Cables, the Fiber Optic Reference Cable Kits: both single mode and multimode, and the Mode Conditioning Fiber Optic Patch Cables.
