Structured cabling system
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008A structured cabling system or SCS as it is commonly referred to as, is a band of cabling and connectivity products that mixes and or incorporates the voice, video, data, and diverse management systems of a building. These varied systems include security access, safety alarms, and energy centric systems. Simply put, it can be described as a system consisting of horizontal wiring and the appropriate connecting hardware.
There are three main cabling standards in the structured cabling system dictionary. The first is the ISO/IEC 11801, which is the International standard for structured cabling systems. Next in line comes the EIA/TIA 568A or the American standard. This particular standard has the unique distinction of being the first to be published. Last but not the least is the CENELEC EN 50173. This happens to be the European cabling standard, the British version of which is BS EN 50173. The reason for having the said standards is to have a means of connecting all types of seller voice and data equipment over a cabling system that showcases common connectors, common media, and a common topology.
The construction of a structured cabling system is based on a number of elements. This process when simply put, can be termed as the procedure of installing some Cat 5E in an organized and professional manner, with the sole intention of achieving the desired results. Some of the important products that form a part of the inventory of structured cabling systems include LAN cables, copper cables, AV cables, patch cords, modular plugs, keystone jacks, cross connects, optical connectors, raised access floors, cable trays and ladders, raceways, conduits, distribution boxes, racks and enclosures, control desks, wiring accessories, plastic cable ducts, et al.
Many manufacturers have taken the online route to showcase the different cabling systems and allied services they offer, and the world market as a whole, has benefited from the same. One such manufacturer is the US headquartered HYPERLINE Systems Inc, a well known name in structured cabling system circles.
